Chris Rea Supports Refuge

08 September 2009

Chris has agreed to support the national domestic violence charity – Refuge (www.refuge.org.uk) - by donating 10 of his famous Blue Guitar paintings for charity auction. All marketing communication materials for his new Greatest Hits CD Still So Far To Go - The Best Of Chris Rea (October 5th) will feature the message Chris Rea Supports Refuge – this includes print advertising, TV advertising, outdoor and online.

Additionally, all communication materials for his 2010 UK tour, promoted by Live Nation UK, will also feature the same message.

Chris explains his rationale for wanting to support Refuge:
“I was on my way to Silverstone to test a little old racing car and we were having all sorts of discussions about what to do with the paintings from the Blue Guitar book. On Radio 4 I heard about the plight of this charity that no one wants to talk about, it is not a sexy charity, not a superstar charity. I thought, right, I will offer Refuge my paintings to auction.”

Sandra Horley, OBE, chief executive of Refuge, says: “Domestic violence takes lives and ruins lives.  Every week two women are killed in England and Wales by a current or former partner and ten women commit suicide every week to escape domestic violence.  The death toll is huge.  And everyday thousands of women and children up and down the country are terrorised and brutalised by their partners and live in constant fear.

On any given day Refuge supports more than 1,000 women and children and the demand on our services is relentless.  Refuge is a cash poor charity and we are especially grateful to Chris Rea for supporting Refuge.  Chris’s support will make a real difference to the lives of thousands of women and children.”
